Making the Old New Again

Bellefonte is a historic town that businesses and developers are noticing.

A brewery is slated to open in Titan Park this spring with the possible addition of a cidery and event venue later.

Closer to downtown Bellefonte, along Spring Creek, the Borough of Bellefonte built a waterfront walk between High and Lamb Streets near where the old Bush House Hotel once stood. The area has already been used for outdoor events including Downtown Bellefonte, Inc.’s “Bellefonte Under the Lights.”

Additionally, in December 2019, Bellefonte Waterfront Associates purchased the property by the new waterfront walk to build a boutique hotel, residential condominiums, and parking structure, with the parking garage and condominium building also offering commercial space. It is the belief of Bellefonte Waterfront Associates that the investment will bring even more business to Bellefonte and will make the historic town more of a destination for visitors in Central Pennsylvania.

“It is believed that our vision for the Bellefonte Waterfront development will be the catalyst to enhance Bellefonte’s vibrant and active community, where people will want to visit and live, while supporting other businesses in the downtown area of Bellefonte and the surrounding area,” say the owners of Bellefonte Waterfront Associates in their vision for the development.

Furthermore, Bellefonte Waterfront Associates plans on adding an educational component to the development.

“We will work with local historians, artists and community members to get their input on how we can educate people on the history of Bellefonte and Centre County… We want the development of the Bellefonte Waterfront to be viewed as a community effort which will encourage other entrepreneurs to continue the redevelopment of Bellefonte going forward.”

Construction of Bellefonte Waterfront Associates’ project is scheduled to start in the summer of 2020.
